It began as one of those ideas that kicks around in your head and never seems to go away. Heather and I would bring our three daughters to the Outer Banks of North Carolina every year for vacation, and every year the highlight of the vacation for the girls was a trip to the local donut shop for a fresh donut. One year, as I was waiting outside for the girls, I noticed everyone walking into the donut shop was smiling and everyone leaving the donut shop was smiling. When Heather walked out with the girls, I told her what I had observed and said “why aren’t we doing this?”.
And with that, the seed was planted.
It would be years before that seed would sprout. An unexpected career change, an available space in an historic building, and a global pandemic converged for the perfect timing to re-examine our priorities. So in October of 2020, our donut adventure began. Six months later, Heather left her nursing job (side note – we both still do real estate) and we were all in. We’ve had the added pleasure of working side by side with our daughters, making our little donut shop a true family-operated venture. Without their love for donuts, we simply wouldn’t be where we are today.
Our focus since the day we opened has been serving freshly-made donuts, carefully finished by our donut artists in a fun atmosphere that always seems to generate smiles. And with the tremendous support we’ve had from our loyal customers, our local communities and all of the fellow donut lovers out there who appreciate a delicious, fresh donut and terrific customer service, we hope to continue this adventure for a very long time.
